A Nourishing Apple Crumble for the Shift Into Winter

A Nourishing Apple Crumble for the Shift Into Winter

Simple Autumn Apple Crumble: A Nourishing Seasonal Treat

As the air cools and the days become shorter, there's something comforting about leaning into the slower rhythm of the season. As Autumn transitions to winter it invites us to reconnect with warmth, nourishment, and simple rituals that support our bodies and minds.

This apple crumble is one of those recipes that just feels right. Made with whole, nourishing ingredients, it's the kind of dessert (or breakfast!) that feels warm, grounding, and deeply satisfying.

Why We Love It

  • It's packed with seasonal apples, warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, and a nourishing oat and almond crumble.
  • It’s naturally sweetened, and easy to adapt to your preferences.
  • It brings people together, whether you're sharing it after a meal, or enjoying it quietly with a cup of tea and a cozy jumper on.

This recipe is a perfect reflection of the Refuel philosophy: real food, made simply, to nourish your body and restore your sense of calm.

Wholesome Apple Crumble

Fruit base:

5 apples (Pink Lady or Granny Smith work beautifully)

2 tbs of lemon juice

1 tsp ground cinnamon

Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Crumble topping:

1 cup rolled oats

½ cup almond flour

¼ cup desiccated coconut

2 tbsp coconut sugar or pure maple syrup (or 1 tbsp of each for a balanced flavour)

2 tbsp melted coconut oil or grass-fed butter

1 tsp ground cinnamon

Pinch of sea salt

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a baking dish with a smear of coconut oil.
  2. Place sliced apples in a bowl and toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg if using. Spread them evenly in the prepared dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine oats, almond flour, coconut, sugar or syrup, cinnamon, and salt. Drizzle over the melted oil or butter and mix until crumbly and combined.
  4. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.
  6. Let it rest slightly before serving. It’s delicious on its own or with a spoonful of natural, Greek, or coconut yoghurt.

Whether you're winding down with family or setting aside a moment just for yourself, this crumble is a beautiful way to honour the shift in seasons. Let it be a small reminder to slow down, breathe deep, and nourish from within.

With warmth,
Chloe & Brad
